Jennifer Finch, the founding bassist of L7, has died at the age of 59 after living with an aggressive form of brain cancer, according to a statement shared by the band. The announcement came after L7 had previously revealed that Finch would not be able to take part in its farewell tour because of her health.
Band members remembered Finch as a fearless musician, creative force, and close friend whose work helped shape the group’s identity during its early years. They also recognized her lasting impact on the punk and alternative rock communities through both her music and her artistic projects.
Finch co-founded L7 in the mid-1980s and played on several of the band’s best-known releases, including Bricks Are Heavy. Her energetic bass playing and songwriting contributed to the group’s success as it became one of the defining rock acts of the era.
After leaving the band in the 1990s, Finch continued working as a photographer, designer, and visual artist before rejoining L7 in 2014. Her career stretched far beyond music, leaving a legacy that reached fans and fellow artists across multiple creative fields.
